It has been observed that usually great movies are always accompanied by great dialogues. Powerful and well written dialogues not only add its own charm to the movie but also help in creating an impact in the minds of the viewer’s. It is for this reason that I have undertaken this difficult task in selecting my top 10 favorite dialogues from Hollywood movies that I have watched over the years. The long and illustrious list is as follows:

1. “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.- The Godfather.

This dialogue is a perfect example of making a threat without saying much and is certainly the best dialogue ever to be written in the world of cinema. The credit for this dialogue must certainly to go Mario Puzo who had written it for the book and which was then eventually successfully adapted into the movie. This dialogue symbolizes the power of Don Corelone the main character of the drama in the truest sense of the word and when this dialogue is delivered by the great Marlon Brando then it only adds to the aura of the movie. All in all one of the greatest dialogues in Hollywood which will always remain embedded in the minds of true cinema lovers all around the world.

2.  “You talkin to me?”-Taxi Driver.

Another great dialogue from a Martin Scorcese masterpiece called Taxi Driver. What makes this dialogue so great is that it is basically monologue where the main protagonist Travis Bickle talks to himself standing in front of the mirror as he is on the verge of losing his sanity. The fact that the actual dialogue was not written but was actually improvised by the great De Niro only adds to the greatness of the dialogue. Overall this dialogue is definitely one of the greatest dialogues to have been written and is certain to be admired by generations to come.

3.  “Keep your friends close, but enemies closer”-The Godfather Part II.

Keeping with the tradition here’s yet another classic dialogue from Godfather part II . This dialogue perfectly epitomizes the world that the movie represents i.e. the Italian mafia. With the great Al Pacino as Micahel Corleone delivering this dialogue it is not surprising why this dialogue packs a punch. Overall a great dialogue from a great film and certainly one that will forever be remembered.

 

4.  “Say hello to my little friend”- Scarface.

Another great dialogue from an all time American gangster classic Scarface. A dialogue which certainly has reflects the mood of the movie which is basically violent. This dialogue also perfectly reflects the unpredictable character of Tony Montana played by the great Al pacino. To conclude this is certainly an all time great dialogue which over the years has gained a cult status and will continue doing so in the near future as well.

 

5.  “Greed for the lack of a better word, is good”- Wall Street.

This is a classic dialogue from a Michael Douglas masterpiece Wall Street. This dialogue perfectly reflects the background of this movie which deals with Wall Street and more importantly money. It also quite perfectly reflects the ruthless ambitions of the character Gordon Gekko played beautifully by the great Michael Douglas. Thus this dialogue will always continue to be remembered as one of the all time great dialogues ever to be written in the world of cinema.

 

6.  “May the force be with you”- Star Wars.

This is a classic dialogue from a George Lucas classic trilogy Star Wars. A dialogue which blends in with the story which is based on a space opera quite beautifully. To add to the charm of this dialogue is the delivery of this dialogue by the great Harrison Ford as the charismatic Han Solo. In totality a great dialogue which will continue to make an impression on true cinema lovers all around the world for years to come.

7. “Yo, Adrian we did it”- Rocky

Yet another gem of a dialogue from the Slyvester Stallone classic Rocky series. This dialogue symbolizes the character Rocky played by Stallone who is full of heart. It also shows the kind of family man he is with a deep love for his wife Adrian. In all a great dialogue which reflects the character Rocky perfectly and shall always remain in the hearts of fans of this franchise forever.

8. “I feel the need, the need for speed”- Top Gun.

A dialogue that perfectly encapsulates the character of the Tom Cruise classic Top Gun perfectly. It is also unique in the sense that it also reflects a great friendship between two key characters of Lt Pete Mitchell or “Maverick” and Lt Nick Bradshaw or “Goose”. A great dialogue yet again and one which will always be remembered for years to come.

9.  “Bond, James Bond”- Dr. No.

A dialogue that has become a trademark for all James Bond movies after the great Sean Connery made this dialogue famous in Dr. No. A dialogue that is quite simple as well as being a perfect line to introduce the character of James Bond. The fact that it is the legendary Sean Connery who used this dialogue for the first time only adds to its charm. A great dialogue which will definitely go down in the glorious annals of world cinema as one of the greatest dialogues ever to be written.

 

10. “I’ll be back”- The Terminator.

A dialogue which involves one of Hollywood’s greatest action stars ever who answers by the name of Arnold Schwarzenegger.        This dialogue is unique in the sense that it serves as a perfect signature line for the movie to end. It also a dialogue that quite appropriately blends in with the personality of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Overall a great dialogue from a great movie franchise called Terminator which will always be remembered by movie lovers all around the world forever.
