It is said that the best way for man to relax in the evening after a hard day at work is in the company of a glass of great Scotch whisky. Tradition says that Scotch whisky was first produced in Scotland from a Scottish drink called “usige beatha” which means “lively water” or “water of life”. According to some early documented records the first distillation of Scotch whisky was found to have occurred as early as 1494 in Scotland.
So basically Scotch whisky is of two types and they are the single malt scotch and single grain scotch. While the single malt scotch consists of water and malted barley produced at a single distillery by batch distillation. A single grain scotch on the other hand consists of grains of malted or unmalted cereals. It is from these two types of scotch whisky’s that blends are usually made. The blends are of three types and they are blended malt Scotch whisky, blended grain Scotch whisky, and blended Scotch whisky. So while blended malt Scotch whisky is made of a mixture of two or more single malt whiskies from different distilleries, blended grain Scotch whisky is made of a mixture of two or more single grain whiskies from different distilleries, and blended Scotch whisky is basically made up of mixture of two or more single malt or single grain whiskies. Such is the exclusivity of Scotch whisky that according to an act in Scotland known as Scotland Whisky Act 1988 it is clearly stated that only whisky that is manufactured in Scotland can be called Scotch whisky. As for the bottling of whisky most of the malt distilleries usually use whisky cask which is then bottled sometimes as single malt by independent bottle firms like Duncan Taylor, Master of Malt etc. While as for the labeling of the bottle usually the distillery name is used without any use of trademarks. Although there are many brands of Scotch whisky which for variety of reasons do not reveal the name of their distillery. In terms of alcohol by volume percentage of Scotch basically the range starts from 40% to about approximately 94.8%.
As is well known Scotch whisky plays a big part in the rich culture of Scotland. It is believed that it was St. Patrick of Ireland who introduced the secrets of distilling whisky throughout Scotland. Also it is known fact that each region of Scotland produces its own whisky with its own distinct flavor. It is also said especially in relation to Scotch whisky that “The older the Scotch whisky, the better”. So it is for this reason that the regular drinkers of Scotch whisky have a tendency to select a whisky that has matured for about at least 10 to 20 years.
So with Scotch whisky now being famous the world over this drink has certainly become a trademark for quality especially in social gatherings. What this drink also represents perfectly is the old idiom that says “Old is forever gold”.http://newzfeaturez.com/scotch-whisky-a-drink-that-is-made-for-all-seasons/http://newzfeaturez.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/johnnie_walker_red_label_whisky_11-1.jpghttp://newzfeaturez.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/johnnie_walker_red_label_whisky_11-1-150x150.jpgFood and BeveragesLifestyleLifestyle and Health
