There are very few actors in Bollywood who can completely transform themselves into the character they play, and make it believable. Now, one such actor who has genuinely proven to be “adaptable and believable” is the talented Rajkummar Rao. Having made a confident debut in Dibakar Banerjee’s experimental film “Love, Sex, Aur Dhokha” way back in 2010 this gifted actor has certainly come a long way since then. With the actor’s latest release “Newton” a political satire having been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars, Rao as an actor seems to be rapidly growing in stature. And so here is presenting a few facts “highlighting” why this actor is rising so quickly in Bollywood.
1. THE “TALENT” OF RAJKUMMAR RAO:
One feature that always stands out while watching Rao act, is the incredible natural talent that he possesses. So be it in scenes that require intensity or in comedy he does it with relative ease. He also possesses an unique ability of understanding a character, and subtly “becoming the character” by adding “nuances” to the performance. The fact that he trained himself in acting at the prestigious FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) has only helped him nurture his natural talent. Furthermore, he was publicly first acknowledged as a serious talent via a brilliant performance in the Hansal Mehta film “Shahid”, for which he won the “National Award for Best Actor”. With the actor having displayed his wares in a variety of roles in 2017 in movies such as “Trapped”, “Newton”, “Bareilly Ki Barfi” etc, it certainly looks like Rao is all set to take his career to the another level in days to come.
2. RAJKUMMAR RAO, AN ACTOR WITH “MANY FACES”:
“In your choices lies your talent” a famous quote made by great acting teacher Stella Adler perfectly reflects the career of Rajkummar Rao so far, who after having played a variety of roles since the last seven years can certainly be termed as an “Actor with many faces”. Beginning with the role of an opportunist supermarket supervisor “Adarsh” in his debut film “Love, Sex aur Dhokha” to his brilliant performance as a naive election officer in “Newton” he has shown the audiences around the country various facets of his acting, which is the primary function of a genuine artist. Furthermore, what also stands out about this actor is the “fearlessness” he exhibits in taking up supporting roles (a classic example being his role in Queen) which is rare especially in “Bollywood” where insecurity in actors/stars reigns supreme.
3. THE “METHOD” BEHIND THE BRILLIANCE OF RAJKUMMAR RAO:
Now, apart from selecting suitable roles, Rao is equally well known for the meticulously preparation he puts in for all his movies . So be it surviving on just “carrot and coffee” during the shooting of “Trapped” or shaving his head for a web series based on the life of Indian freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose, this “methodical”actor is prepared to go to any lengths to get into the “skin of the character”. The dedication shown by this actor should come as no surprise since he has publicly stated that the two actors that he admires the most are Daniel Day Lewis and Meryl Streep. Furthermore, the fact that he has actually learnt acting is also one of the major reasons why Rao approaches acting with so much method and planning. With about six to seven movies in the pipeline, one can only hope that the “brilliance” of this wonderful actor continues to enthrall us in the future as well.
So with Rajkummar having a wonderful 2017 so far, we can only hope that this young talented actor from Gurugram in Haryana continues to keep raising the bar with regards to acting, and thereby eventually becoming an ideal “role model” for future generation actors/stars.
