Neer Dosa is basically a delicacy from the state of Karnataka in India. The word Neer actually means “water” in the dialect called Tulu which is commonly used in the state. This delicacy is actually called “Neer” because water is used extensively during the preparation of Neer Dosa. The specialty of this delicacy is that it is only prepared in the state of Karnataka and in no other parts of the country.
The preparation for this delicacy begins with rice being soaked in water for three to four hours. Once the soaking is done the soaked rice is then ground to form a rice batter. To this rice batter salt is added. The rice batter is now ready to be poured over a flat pan or commonly known as tawa on which oil is also added. As the tawa is ready a thin layer of batter is then poured on the tawa which is then spread with the help of the base of a bowl to form a pancake. It is then usually flipped to heat both crusts and removed when the crusts are dry and served hot. Usually Neer dosa really taste good with chutney which is popular condiment of the South Asian cusine. Although Neer dosa also taste good with chicken, fish or mutton curry as also with Sambar which is basically a famous vegetable stew dish in the South Indian cuisine.
